Sketch #20

I'm following along with the Great American Stampin' Show as they create using the sketches from the catalogue as inspiration. This week it is sketch #20 and as usual, you do not have to follow strictly to the same formula. Use the sketch to get your creativity started.

A simple sketch like this one can be the basis for many cards. I've chosen a new designer series paper, Mixed Media Florals DSP for this one for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I have just arrived home from a month away exploring Australia, connecting with distant friends and family and I am busily catching up on numerous household tasks. Secondly, I received a preorder of NEW Stampin' Up! products this week which won't be available to customers until early January, and I couldn't wait to cut paper and ink up new stamps!!! Mixed Florals bundle, Mixed Media Florals DSP & Mixed Media Florals Memories & More cards are all part of a new online release scheduled for 7 January 2025.

This DSP has the flowers right around the outside, so by cutting squares 9.5cm X 11cm it positioned the pattern on four squares perfectly that a banner wouldn't spoil the design. You could also cut a whole card front, but adding the sentiment below the focal square seemed a good approach.

For a comparison I have shared an image stamped inside the card. You may be aware of the problems manufacturers including Stampin' Up! are having with copyright and rip-off merchants, so to make the process more difficult, the images are often not portrayed at 100% on the cover anymore.

Since it is expensive to employ artists to create these images, it is only fair that they are under copyright. Personally, I love these big, bold florals.

Colour Creations Blog Hop - Week 24 - Fresh Freesia

Fresh Freesia was introduced as an In Color in 2021 and was due to retire at the end of the last Annual catalogue earlier this year, but surprise, surprise - it entered our subtle range as a core colour!

I had two cards to make for two significant birthdays coming up soon. One is a 30th on 15th October, the other for a 95th on 17th October.

Card 1: Fancy Fold for 95th Birthday

The 95th is for the mother of one of my team members, Leanne. Her mother, Rhonda has been staying with her daughter for a few months and enjoys coming to card classes with Leanne. We all enjoy her delightful company and sense of humour!

I'm not sure what the name of this fancy fold is but I'm fairly sure it was fellow Art With Heart team member Kate Morgan who shared it at some stage. I used DSP from Masterfully Made (AC) & Delightful Floral (online exclusive) because they matched so nicely. The large flowers were cut from the Delightful Floral paper, as I was waiting on the Translucent Florals bundle to be delivered.

Rhonda does not let age hold her back, she loves to make cards, crochet and get out and about keeping Leanne on the go. They are about to go on a cruise to New Zealand which I'm sure they will really enjoy.

Card 2: Fancy Fold CASEd from Emma Goddard Coastal Crafter

Masterfully Made DSP was the source of all the fancy papers for this 30th birthday card for my son's girlfriend. Lasting Joy provided the sentiment and flowers. The stems are stamped separately from the flowers so it was easy to use two different colours.

Alphabest had some small numerals suitable for this small square, with more flowers stamped at the base of the panel for writing a personal message.

Next team member this week is the wonderful Theresa Gerrard

Colour Creations Blog Hop - Week 15 - Cajun Craze

Contributors to this blog hop are all members of Claire Daly's Art With Heart group. We love chatting, crafting and getting together in person. Cajun Craze is the star of the show this week.

Bird's Eye View entered my craft room after the stamp sale recently but this week was the first chance I'd had to play.
A variety of the different birds were stamped all over a white panel measuring 9cm by 13cm. Then I had some fun using Stampin' Blends alcohol markers trying all sorts of colours on them.

Layering Leaves has bold sentiments, while Birds Eye View has none, so I heat embossed in white and laid a branch and leaves from BEV across it, although I did consider using sprigs from Layering Leaves too.

Now it's time to see what the talented Ros Davidson has shared.
