Christmas Festival CASE-ing Christmas CTC#41

This week the CASE-ing The Catty Crew are CASE-ing the section of the catalogue titled Christmas, pages 67-72. You may be starting here with me, or perhaps you have come from Emma's Blog, Vintage Graffiti. I love what she made this week.

On page 70 of the catalogue is a picture of a box decorated with green and red Festive Trees. I case-d the layout, changed the colours and turned it into my very first Christmas card for 2015. The fabulous part is the Tree Punch for quickly punching out the stamped images. Although tricky to photograph, up on my display shelf it glimmers and glitters, and looks gorgeous. Youngest son's girlfriend loves it, she always seems to like the things made with Glimmer paper!

It's hard to see the lovely textured embossing on the Night of Navy banner, (Elegant Dots) and the stars stamped on the background are very faint too. The banner framelit included in the Mini Treat Bag Thinlets, is a nice wide one and I joined two together under the circle. The irregular die for the greeting label is from that set too. Unfortunately, Endless Wishes has retired, so if you were to CASE my card, you might have to pick a different sentiment - easily done!

Next, just to show you how versatile this particular sketch is, here is a non-Christmas sample. The Textured Embossing Folder is  Elegant Dots again, so you can see how lovely it is. The banner, from the Mini Treat Bag has been cut twice in Mint Macaron and joined behind the circle. I used a favourite stamp set, Summer Silhouette and a sentiment from Cottage Greetings. I often have thin strips of card lying about, perfect to stamp a sentiment and hand cut the flag ends. More Christmas Cards - by Stampin' Up! - And Me!!

It's probably safe to share my bulk Christmas card as most recipients would have received them by now (or aren't likely to read this blog). It is a shame the lighting was a bit  'off' for this picture. 
Blue is my favourite colour although probably Pool Party through to Bermuda Bay would top the list. For this card I picked Sky Blue and the Seasonally Scattered stamp set. This is a great stamp to do this quick little technique with. It is often referred to as 'thumping'.You ink the stamp up in a light colour, and then use darker Stampin' Write Markers to thump more colour on randomly. I grabbed Night of Navy, Island Indigo and Bermuda Bay.


The sentiments in Endless Wishes are fabulous for matching up with either the stamps in that stamp set, or with others just like here with Christmas stamped out in Cherry Cobbler. The combinations are endless, just like the stamp sets name suggests. A scattering of rhinestones finishes them off with a little bit of sparkle. I made twenty of these cards, but I knew it wouldn't be enough, and last night I've had to whip up some more to get in the post. I do hope they get there before Christmas day! 
I should point out that the wood-mount Seasonally Scattered is in Year-End Closeouts for $34.39, not $42.95! Might be worth ordering for next year!!!

In the afternoon I planned to make my Christmas cake. My mother would be telling me that I've left it too late, but better late than never, and I haven't made a 'proper' one for a few years. Two kilos of dried fruit, ginger, glace cherries had been soaking in sherry for 24 hours, before I began creaming the 500grams of butter and 3 cups of sugar. Even with an electric beater, my arm was aching. I called William to help break the eight eggs in, one at a time while I kept beating. Then he took over for a while till his arm was aching and we'd changed to the wooden spoon. I called Aaron to help, as we added all that fruit in and we're smiling because we were wondering if we would be able to keep it all in the bowl! Next time I might have to get a new bucket for the job!!!

Irish Christmas PP225

I hope you're not feeling too stressed in the lead-up to Christmas. I'm a lot more relaxed, now that I've posted my cards to relatives in Ireland today! It had been worrying me, because it involves writing a resumè of the year's events and there was quite a lot to include. 2014 has been an eventful year with many challenges, but we survived, and are stronger for it.

I've also wrapped the majority of my gifts too, and isn't that a weight off my mind!

I've gone as fancy as I dare on this card, what with international post. It already costs $2.55 to post each card overseas, so I'd hate to pay a penalty for extra thick. There are still a few layers but only one lot of dimensionals. The base is natural card, really good for writing a letter on.  Next is a layer of Blackberry Bliss behind a layer of Texture Embossed Pear Pizzazz. Another Blackberry Bliss layer has been cut with the Apothecary Label die, while the stamped piece was cut with Deco Label Framelits. Endless Wishes is the stamp set here and I stayed with the same two colours. Another little bit of fancy was the Glimmer paper banner in silver, and some rhinestones.It is so hard to see these little bits of shine!

I do hope the post between Australia and the UK isn't taking as long as the post between Sydney and Melbourne! My pre-order for the Occasions catalogue left the warehouse on Monday and still hasn't arrived Thursday night. Same with the complimentary catalogue that Stampin' Up! post to all demonstrators. It's not here either, but so many others have it in their hot little hands. That should be here tomorrow too, hopefully. Fingers crossed.

So how did I know what I wanted to order? I watched the live stream of the unveiling from the US last week, with a group of team members. Also, we can access the online catalogue already, but our customers have to wait till January 6th. Just another one of the perks of being a demonstrator.

Happy Holiday Cheer CTC#13

Here we are back with another challenge in CASE-ing The Catty. Weren't the entries over the last fortnight for gift bags and boxes inspirational? I love to see what others do with the same supplies that I have. This week we are featuring Christmas cards. I've made my Christmas cards for years, even before I came to Stampin' Up!®. Originally, I only made them for a very select group of people I knew would appreciate them, but I never buy Christmas cards now, they're always handmade.
After an evening stroll with my husband, I came home full of inspiration to make this Christmas card.

Those who know me well, always expect a Christmas card in shades of blue, and I haven't decided yet what the design for the bulk card will be this year, but this one just might be in there with a shot!
There's a new Christmas supplement from Stampin' Up!® out now, and I received a shipment a few days ago, so I used Many Merry Stars instead of the Endless Wishes I'd been planning. Both are super-lovely stamp sets, but I wanted to share this one with you before it disappears. The items on this supplement will NOT be carried over, once they're gone, they're gone! Many Merry Stars is particularly adaptable as the little stars inside the larger outlines are all separate pieces, so you can use them together - or not, as you choose. I like the two large outlines for birthday cards too.
The colours I've used are Soft Sky, Blushing Bride, Blackberry Bliss and Wisteria Wonder.

Since the idea of this challenge is CASE-ing The Catty, I was CASE-ing this halloween card on page 46 of the Holiday Catalogue. I liked the way the leaves were layered quite close together toward the bottom of the white panel, gradually thinning out about half way up. I liked the tag they used, but substituted a banner, and I was really impressed with the panel being all askew. It gave the card a novel look I thought, and I will use that again.




The tag is from a stamp set from the Holiday Catalogue, Mingle All The Way. Even though the Thanksgiving tag and the halloween tags aren't a lot of use to us in Australia, the three Christmas tags are so super special that they make up for it! Blissful Bloom HSS#196 SFF100314

Ooooh, this is a bit of fun! An interesting colour combination, PLUS an intricate sketch. The issue then becomes, "What shall I make?"

I tried a few different things before I settled on this landscape version of the sketch, provided by Kathy Clark for Sketch Frenzy Friday.

HandStamped Sentiments came up with the colour combo. The dramatic Blackberry Bliss blossom paired with the soft green of Pear Pizazz  are a match made in heaven. Even though it isn't very traditional, I'm rather fond of the Christmas version I stamped using Endless Wishes too! Maybe I will blog that one soon.

I ended up using leaves from Kinda Eclectic, they're quite similar to Summer Silhouette leaves, so either stamp set is great for background foliage. From my earlier attempts I've gone with the 'Less is More' theory, it tends to work better.

Following the sketch, I layered a piece of  All Is Calm DSP, down one side, but I ended up making it even with the second layer of background. I'm sure you observent readers will notice the Handcarved stamp there. The greeting from Flower Patch seemed a 'Good Fit' and provides a little touch of black, alongside the flower centre.

I made this card this morning, before going to the movies with a very good friend, and then rushing home for Grandma-time with Oliver, who has just spent a delightful two hours with us. The weather is perfect, the garden is a picture and I feel rested and relaxed, ready for work tomorrow. Hope you're feeling good too,
