Pot Of Tea, Anyone? CQC 335

What a lovely inspiration at Colour Q this week. The naive felt image suggested a teapot to me. At another stage of my creativity I painted ceramics, and teapots were one of my favourite pieces. Today I 'painted' the teapot with daisies from Grateful Bunch. I used bleach in an Aquapainter to remove some of the colour from the inside of the petals after heat embossing with white embossing powder. Next I filled in new colour with an Only Orange Stampin' Marker from my mother's stash. Soft Sky has substituted for Cool Caribbean, and I daubed some more colour around the edges. One sentiment is from A Nice Cuppa, the other from Happy Happenings.
It is awfully handy having the Cups and Kettles framelits and a punch for the Grateful Bunch daisies. Not half as messy as sanding back a ceramic piece and preparing it, before painting and then glazing. I'm very glad I found stamps and ink!

I thought you might like to see a bit more detail of the teapot and how nicely the grouping of three flowers placed onto the pot. There doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between my Only Orange and Calypso Coral, but it is a very old marker.

Remarkable Mum

I lay in bed last night, unable to go to sleep, and so I designed a card. Fortunately, I remembered what I'd decided on this morning, and I just had to make some time in my day to put it together. I'm not sure if I've reached the full quota of greens, my original card would have with its leafy DSP but it took too much away from these dramatic leaves from Remarkable You.

Most weeks I try to get inspired by the Freshly Made Sketches challenge, even if I don't get something made to link, but this week there's plenty of time. Hey! You could get something made too.

Obviously those leaves were going to suit shades of green but I thought all the challenges might be done with green with St Patrick's Day being over for another year. Luckily I found that ColourQ has a few more days left for their gorgeous green challenge.

I have decided this should be the card for me, as I love the garden and outdoor spaces, but I expect there are many others who feel the same. The sentiment is made up of one from Remarkable You and For My Family.


  
Now , I must get on to prepare for my class tonight,

What I Love CQC#326


These colours at the ColourQ Challenge this week speak to me of florals, and so I stamped out a relatively quick card using a new stamp I had on hand. So easy, as there is the bold, line image and then two others which help out a lot with colouring that image. Although I have done two-step stamping, I've then returned and casually added strokes of additional colour with a Stampin' Write Marker.
What I Love is one of my favourite stamps from the SALE-A-Bration catalogue this year. When it arrives in your order, it might be a touch surprising. There doesn't seem to be much to it, especially as it is photopolymer. I'm definitely not sorry to have it in my stash, I've been using it lots.

Butterfly Basics provided a birthday sentiment in a lovely font for this card.The 'spidery' font that birthday is written with really appeals to me, and I've noticed that the sentiments for Rose Wonder are similar. I wonder if that means I'll need to order that stamp too?

Best Thing CQC#313

For many, many years I was not a 'pink' person. I've raised five sons and must have totally tuned-out to feminine shades. That is, until we had a grand-daughter (after 4 grandsons) and I went on an all-pink spending spree. Now my attitude to this shade is quite positive.

 I brayered over the newsprint DSP with white craft ink to tone the print colour and had to wait for it to dry before stamping, using World Of Dreams. I liked the wording, "the best thing about a person like you" and took the opportunity to use the Hello You Framelits for a big dramatic 'you'. 

The stamp for this is actually arranged as a four-line verse, so I re-arranged the first two lines into a single line, before stamping the remainder of the verse on the inside. It says, 'is that you bring out the best in everyone.'  I love the stamps in this set using different flora there are two here on the outside, and another different one inside.

Seafood Birthday Platter CQC#297

I've had quite a play with this subject today and ended up with 3 different versions of a card for the ColourQ Challenge. They all related to the ocean in one way or another,  although I'd love to make little houses too! The one I am sharing with you this time is the second creation, with an added suggestion from my dear hubby to include some sort of net. Butterfly Basics supplied the stamp for that, just a hint of Crumb Cake stamped over opposing corners. These sorts of stamps are great to 'ground' elements of a design, it has a faint honeycomb effect. The ocean creatures (or seafood platter!) come from my well-used set By The Tide. I noticed today that despite careful cleaning, these stamps are holding the ink stains. Nothing wrong with that, they still stamp perfectly.

I picked the largest square that would fit on the card front (it happens to be the largest square in this set of dies anyway) and cut a precious square of Midnight Muse, followed by the next smaller square in Pool Party, and finally, the stamped piece.
The final touch on this card is the big, bold birthday greeting from the new Hostess set, Happy Birthday Everyone. This stamp set is a 'must-have', in my opinion, not only for the large 'Happy Birthday' but for the one liners included such as to an amazing woman, to a wonderful man or to a good friend.

Initially my plan was to use this card for my husband's birthday, but after he took such an interest in the design process, it doesn't quite seem right!

The Road Less Traveled - ColourQ #287

Three great stamp sets and a perfect Colour challenge, thanks yet again to the team at ColourQ. I'd been hanging out to combine World Map with The Road Less Traveled from Adventure Awaits, and since I'd inked the vintage car earlier in the week, it was still on my table and begging to be used again too. It is one of the images from Guy Greetings, so many treasures in that stamp set.

The 'spot of colour' I chose was Cherry Cobbler, the car is quite easy to colour, and I framed it within a film strip (On Film Framelits). Guy Greetings has a number of sentiments, including the Happy Father's Day and a Happy Birthday in a similar style.

Playful Painted Petals and Pennants, CQC #285 RS#159

I've been away visiting my eldest son and his family for the last three days and it has been wonderful.
My husband is back to work tomorrow, I have the rest of the week off work - lovely.

There's a cute sketch at Retro-Sketches with banners, and I haven't played with Retro Sketches for ages.

I wondered how to mix these spring-like colours from ColourQ up in a 'different' way, and pulled three stamp sets from the shelf. Playful Pennants was the first, providing the banners and sentiment. Butterfly Basics gave the Daffodil Delight pattern across the bottom and a tiny butterfly on one of the pennants.

Lastly, Painted Petals added in a few pretty flowers and foliage. Actually, I can see lots of different directions to go with this one now, but its late and I must get some sleep!

Sparkle In Pink

I love the weekend, and I am really enjoying this one. I finished my chores as quickly as possible and have enjoyed the garden in the spring sunshine. I did a little crafting last night, although I have been working on my Project Life too. I was so far behind (four years in fact) that my initial job was to get them into order in the albums. I have been going through and adding in journaling cards and sometimes printing some additional photos.

I've struggled to make cards this week. I was just too tired after work, but last night I was a little more relaxed and I put together this pretty little pink number. I love the sketch Amy O'Neill has for the Freshly Made Sketches challenge this week. I'm a big fan of Amy's work so it stands to reason I'd like her sketch, and her card too. You just need to click on Freshly Made Sketches and it will take you to the blog where you will see oodles of inspiration.

While I was sorting out my design, I decided to use the colours in this week's colour challenge at ColourQ. Black, pink and silver can be put-together so many different ways. I chose to use Blushing Bride because I didn't have Pretty In Pink, with a teensy bit of black, and a little more silver. It was lots of fun layering up the Flower Patch blossom. Die cutting is a breeze with the matching dies, Flower Fair framelits. Project Life Cards & Labels framelits cut a strip of silver glimmer paper. Silver Glimmer paper has a tendency to blunt cutting blades and punches, but doesn't seem to cause the same problems with framelits.

It does seem to shed a bit of its glimmer on the Big Shot cutting plates, causing lots of the projects that follow to 'sparkle' too!!!!!






I wish the camera had succeeded in picking up the gorgeous sparkle, you'll just have to believe me.

On Wednesday night this week, I had the thrill of seeing the later stages of a Luna eclipse, after the cloud cleared. I found it amazing to see the distinct shadow on the surface of the moon.

Happy Birthday William PP#214 & cQc#260

I've had a busy day, but don't have much to show for it!!!! Next week I am selling off a lot of my retired Stampin' Up!® stamp sets, inks etc. and it takes so long to photograph and list them, it seems to have taken most of the day.

BUT, I have also whipped up another birthday card, this time for No. 4 son, whose birthday is 10 days away. No. 2 son is this Sunday, and I have shared his card previously, here. It turns out Jake's is really appropriate, as he has asked for an apricot tree, so that his children can experience the joy of picking fruit from the tree to eat.

For William's card I've played about with Boutique Borders, Big News and What's Up? 


I was aiming for clean and simple masculine, as requested by Jaydee at The Paper Players. With five sons and the same number of grandsons, I do seem to always be needing masculine cards, but I'm still no expert!  I had intended to show the inside of the card when I first posted this, but my computer is being very temperamental about loading photos, and there was a few days delay before it would let me load more than the first pic.


I am loving these stamp sets and the snazzy, sketchy shapes that seem to go so snuggly together. The colours at ColourQ are quite masculine too, so that was a great solution to my quick card. Sometimes it pays not to over-think things.....

Big News - It's Your Birthday!

Spring is really here and it makes my heart sing! I've had a delightful afternoon making cards with some lovely ladies, using Flower Patch stamp set. I think they were thrilled with their beautiful cards. One of my friends wanted to use Big News for her greeting, which has helped me choose the direction I will go with this fun card.
I already had planned to use  Boutique Borders and colour them, and the 'it's your birthday' in Big News, with its spindly font, just seems to go together with those borders. It almost seems to be hand-drawn, don't you think?




I can't locate my Summer Starfruit marker, so a sponge dauber dipped into the inkpad, has helped out, and I don't mind the look of it, outside the lines and all. The rest of the semi-circles were coloured using Stampin' Write Markers in the different hues. I've realised that it is quite hard to pick up the Blackberry Bliss, but its there on two of the striped half-circles at the top and the bottom (and of course the tiny flower from Something To Say).The 'woo-hoo' banners are from Big News, and have been easily hand-cut and attached with a narrow strip of Dimensional edging, to the hand-drawn flag poles.

It reminds me a little of licorice allsorts, yum, haven't had them for ages!

The inside is decorated but not coloured. 'Enjoy the Fuss' is another stamp from the Big News set. Its a great set, and big value too.

ColourQ set this great challenge, and I loved it!
