Sketch #9 With the Great American Stamping Show

To help inspire my crafting I'm following along with the Great American Stampin' Show as they use the sketches from the catalogue as inspiration. This week it is sketch #9 and as usual, you do not have to follow strictly to the same formula. Use the sketch to inspire, and don't forget to send the cards you create.

My son has been house-hunting for more than 4 years now and every weekend I pray that he will commit to buying. I have a card ready for the big purchase now so fingers crossed!!!!

For a little while I had no idea what to use to interpret this sketch, until I noticed the dies for the strip in Friends For Life. That was a lot more interesting than plain old strips!!!

A variety of colours were cut, and then I just played around until I was happy. A combination of sentiments were pieced together to make the message and because I'm sure there will be painting to do, I included a paint brush from Trusty Tools.

Humble Home was added to my stash for just this card, although I can see myself making some Christmas cards with it too.

Colour Creations Blog Hop - Week 18 - Coastal Cabana

Contributors to this blog hop are all members of Claire Daly's Art With Heart group. Every Wednesday night at 8p.m AEST we feature a fabulous Stampin' Up! colour, in alphabetical order.

Coastal Cabana is a lovely shade of blue-green and I had so many ideas for this project. However, I have been looking at my shelves and trying to use stamps that haven't had enough ink lately and Beauty of the Deep popped out at me.

It sat for a day or two before I decided to go back to the past to try out the retiform technique again. It really is a lot of fun and blending brushes make it so much easier than it used to be. I grabbed a pile of blue and green inks including Coastal Cabana and made a start.

Maybe I should have photographed the process as I worked, but it is something you can google and learn that way. I masked a small area and blended ink before stamping with the same shade and a stamp (or two) from Beauty of the Deep. You move the masks around creating geometric patches to colour and stamp.

I find starting with a full quarter sheet of Basic White is best because it can be trimmed back afterwards to use the best portion of your artwork. To finish off I stamped 'Hey.' from Saying Hey and diecut 'friend' from Friends For Life dies to make a notecard to post to a friend.

Our next talented Art With Heart team member is the lovely Andrea Sargent

If at any time you find a broken link or would like to see a full list of participants, please head to the blog of our host of the AWH Colour Creations Blog Hop, Catherine Proctor.

Happy crafting,

Week #3 Sketch With the Great American Stamping Show

To keep me making cards for the next 6 months I'm following along with the Great American Stampin' Show as they use the sketches from the catalogue as inspiration. This week it is sketch #3 and as usual, you do not have to follow strictly to the same formula. Use the sketch to inspire.

This sketch idea has been used often by me and others over the years. This week I chose a scenic paper from Thoughtful Journey DSP and the great thing with this layout is how economical it is with the pretty paper. This is currently priced at 15% off, so you may want to add some to your order, I'm getting another pack as it is current through to end of April next year.

With 2.5cm strips, it is possible to get two cards from each 6" X 6" piece of paper. The first one has a Petunia Pop base to set off the clump of flowers in the foreground.

For the second card there is a white base, texture embossed background and a ribbon. A simple greeting to fit a circle of holes, which is one of the unusual dies in the Round We Go bundle.

Do you have a preference for one card or the other?
