Favourite Retiring DSP CTC#415

CASE-ing The Catty Crew are a group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators from Australia & New Zealand who take inspiration weekly from the catalogues. The catalogues are a fantastic resource, and we love to inspire you to seek inspiration there too. We are sharing some favourite designer series papers we are sad to see leave.

After beginning demonstrating Stampin' Up! 12 years ago, and hoarding all the pretty papers, I have now become the biggest advocate for #loveitchopit, a group begun some time ago by my teammate Kylie Bertucci to encourage people to use the pretty paper - and maybe order more - LOL!

Delicate Desert was my choice of paper for this blog hop, and I have four cards to share with you. Colours featured are Cajun Craze, Calypso Coral, Gray Granite, Pale Papaya (retiring), Petal Pink & Soft Succulent (retiring).

Card #1 uses a layout CASEd from page 44 of the mini catalogue with a selection of the Delicate Desert DSP. This 12" X 12" paper has been reduced to $14.70 and imagine how many cards you can make with that, even if they are layered up like this one. I used both rectangle dies, flowers, succulent and a die cut border on here.

Cards #2, #3 & #4 are above. I have used a favourite cutting trick to make the most of the lovely co-ordinating colours, and even showed how to gain some variety.
  1. Cut 3 pieces of DSP 9.5cm X 13.5cm
  2. Stack these 3 pieces on top of each other and cut diagonally from the top of one long side to the bottom of the other long side. This is NOT corner to corner, but around 5-10cm from the corner.
  3. Choose which stack (usually the one that appears slightly larger) you will cut again.
  4. You have created 9 irregular pieces which you need to mix & match so there are no duplicates in any set.
  5. Cut card to match or contrast, 10cm X 14cm and glue your fractured rectangle to this.
  6. Time to decorate and mount on a card base.

Artistically Inked & Artistic dies have been on the scene for some time now, but they made it into the Annual catalogue, so I used them here for a little variation. This stamp set includes bold, clear greetings too, and I heat embossed this birthday greeting with black embossing powder.

Another variation was created by turning all 3 papers in one fractured rectangle over for a different colour scheme. It also reverses where the joins occur.

As in Card #1, Desert Details was the chosen stamp & die combination. Don't buy them as a bundle now that the prices are reduced, they're much cheaper individually now in the Last Chance Sale. The stamp is only $16.80, while the dies are a very reasonable $30.

This border stamp helps to finish off the inside rather nicely and a die cut flower is glued in place.

Card #4 is my absolute favourite! Taco Fiesta is a witty little photopolymer stamp set on page 48 of the mini catalogue and page 52 of the new Annual catalogue and priced at $34, it's not too pricey. No dies also keeps the price down, and the images are quite easy to fussy-cut.

I stamped a few images onto Basic white card and Lemon-Lime Twist, did some colouring with blends and then played around until I was happy with the placement.

Sentiments were taken from Taco Fiesta & Desert Details, and I improvised with a circle punch to create the tag.

I do have someone in mind for this card and his birthday is not until October so I will pop it in my Birthday Organizer so I don't lose it.

The inside has been stamped with the same border stamp used on the earlier card and a fussy cut cactus in a sombrero is keeping company with two chillies.

We love for you to share your projects using the challenges. We do request that the projects you submit have been created especially for this challenge. You can CASE directly or be inspired by a sketch/layout, colour combo or embellishment. Ask to join our Facebook group, and then add a picture of your CASE.

Julia Quinn is sharing her favourite retiring DSP next on this blog hop.

  1. I love this idea Rachel, I have only ever done this with carefully measured rectangles! I love the idea of less precise shapes. Your cards are beautiful and show off this DSP wonderfully.
