Your Great Birthday CTC#38 -CASE-ing The Kids Section

Another Friday, another CASE-ing The Catty and this week we are CASE-ing the kids section, pages 39-48. You may have started here with me, in which case you have a delightful lot of hopping to do as you check out all the design team blogs, or if you came here from Stasia's  blog, you won't have quite as far to go.

I wanted to CASE the card on page 47, and fully intended to make a kids card, I need quite a few cards for children, especially boys. However, a sudden flash of inspiration came out of the blue!

At convention we received the stamp set I Think You're Great and we made three different Make And Takes over the 3 days. One of them used the floral-like stamp which we inked, and then daubed with a darker shade in the centre. I decided to make a row of images using this technique and style it like the chosen design. Mint Macaron is the main colour, and Lost Lagoon was daubed into the centre. Those two shades really go nicely together, and a tiny accent of Hello Honey gives a bit of a 'lift'. I'm sure Watermelon Wonder would look great too. The sentiment is from the retired Itty Bitty Banners, cut with Bitty Banners Framelits (they're still in the catalogue). There was a scrap of  white Jute Ribbon on my table which I thought added interest, even though you can hardly notice it, along with some white Bakers Twine.

I've had more free time while school has taken a two week winter break, and I couldn't stop myself from creating another version of this card using Guy Greetings. I bought this stamp set mainly for the sentiments and the tool image. However, after a recent outing with a family member, it became very apparent that he has a 'thing' for hats. We had just exited Flinders Street Station, the main rail station for Melbourne. It is quite historic, and has some rather traditional shops beneath street level. One of these is a men's hatter and a comment was made about the nice hats but how expensive they are. I might have to sneak back to check it out sometime!

This card is much plainer than either my first, or the catty version. I think I might have liked some Crushed Curry on there too.The strip of hats is mounted on Elegant Eggplant and the DSP is from that recent great paper stack, Adventure Bound. I don't use a lot of the Regals, but they really suited this card.
From The Herd was another of those stamp sets with very handy sentiments, in particular it's a really nice 'Happy Birthday' sentiment. The font is almost the same as Guy Greetings so they paired up here, beautifully! Even with the close-up I've taken, you can't see that I fussy cut three hats, sponged the edges and raised them on half Dimensionals. I'm using sponge daubers so much lately, might have to pop some more on the next order!

If you are thinking of ordering in my online shop, the Hostess Code for this month is 6J7FYB24.

It's time for you to pop over to check out  Tricia  on the blog hop. Are you looking forward to a creative weekend?
Rachel

Framed Floral

I felt enthused to create today (that just means I didn't really want to do housework!!!) and turned to a couple of favourite inspiration spots.
Freshly Made Sketches have a lovely sketch, as usual and I could see that I might get to use my Fun Frames Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
After I'd chosen the strip of DSP from my pile of now-retired patterned papers, I decided it wouldn't be too hard to conform to Colour Me! colour challenge of Night of Navy, Real Red and a neutral.

Pictogram Punches is a favourite stamp set of mine, and it might just be the cute little Itty Bitty Accents Punches that go with it, but I also really like the vase, and it fitted beautifully inside the frame. The sentiment is from the recently retired From The Herd, cut with a banner from the Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlet. Quite quick and easy to put together once the decisions were made.

Cheers

P.S. Thanks to Katie at Colour Me!  for picking this card for a Colour Connoisseur.

Goodbye From the Herd

As I was updating my card stash this morning I came across this card which I haven't posted. From The Herd was one of those stamps which you loved or hated, no in-between with this one!!!!
The things which made me love this set...

  • whimsical looks on the animal faces
  • fabulous range of sentiments included which can be used with other stamp sets
  • suitability of the image to ...leave plain, colour realistically, use sepia tones, use cartoon-like shades
This was the sepia toned version and I coloured mainly with the skin toned Blendabilities, which are now withdrawn. Mine work perfectly well, I will continue to use them on personal projects.

The same effect could be obtained using the great range of natural tones available in Stampin' Write markers, and Aquapainter and Watercolor Paper. If you want to see a more naturally coloured version, I posted this way back in February,
Occasions catalogue finishes next Tuesday, 2nd June. Until then, this stamp set is available in all three types: Photopolymer, Clear and Woodmount. What a choice!

If you use my online shop and you choose to earn the Hostess Code B6VWKZMJ, I will mail you a 'little something' from my stash.

Have a lovely day
Cheers
Rachel

South Pacific Stampin' Up!® Convention - More Swaps

Still here on the Gold Coast, enjoying all the fun of a Stampin' Up!® Convention. Last night a large group from Claire Daly's Art With Heart team went out for dinner. So much fun to catch up with demonstrators from the wider team. They came from as far as Perth, taking a whole day to travel to the Gold Coast via Melbourne and they came from around the Gold Coast/Brisbane area too. Well, I guess the fact that we have a team member from the States at the moment makes Karen our most distant member, but she actually has been living in Melbourne.

I made two other card fronts to swap with other demonstrators, and sadly, after the retired list came out last Tuesday 21st, it seems that both my swaps have retired product on them.

This first one uses mainly Polka Dot Pieces, which is retiring, and I believe clear mount has already sold out. I used the small flowers from Something To Say, punched out with Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and it has all been grounded on the Starburst Framelit circle which was punched out of my design crew swap card.

Starburst Framelits are retiring too. The circle was stamped with Hardwood. The sentiments in From The Herd have a really nice font, the 'happy birthday' came from that set.The Bird Builder Punch remains in the catalogue, so perhaps there will be another stamp released to co-ordinate with it.

For my other swap, the only item used which remains current is Gorgeous Grunge. I tried for a less feminine card, using some DSP, although those are soft colours. The stamp set is #Hello and incudes a lovely big @, as well as some of those hashtag slogans like #friendsarethebest. I paired it with Hello, which is decorated with the teeny heart from the Owl Builder PunchOn Film Framelits are also retiring, but I will keep them for my own use. The round 'hello' was stapled into position.

Now is a good time to pop over and do some online shopping, you might even score a bargain. Many of the products were sold out within hours though, so I hope you're not disappointed! The product links below will take you directly to the item you click on.

I had no time to make more swaps with current products so I hope the recipients aren't too disappointed.
Cheers

Happy Birthday, From All Of Us! CTC#20

Each week at CASE-ing The Catty we turn to our Stampin' Up! Catalogues for inspiration. We'd love it if you joined us in CASE-ing The Catty too!

This week we are seeking inspiration from the SALE-A-BRATION Catalogue, and use Blendabilities  and Framelit Dies in your project. You can copy exactly, use a sketch or layout as an inspiration starter, or maybe a colour combination to create a card, scrapbook page or 3D item. Then just share in your write-up which sketch or colour combination inspired you.
Check out page 18 for inspiration.

Our challenges close at 5pm Thursday (AEDT)
  • Create a new project for the challenge
  • Mention CTC in your blog post and link back so others can join us
  • Mainly SUO products (retired or current) to be used for these challenges

When I go away from home, for a weekend of R & R, I take a plastic box, containing all my Blendabilities, a spare pad of Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and a couple of stamps, along with a pack of Whisper White. At our getaway, there already is a basic kit of essentials (SU Trimmer, SU Scrub, SU mist and some stamp pads) because I hate to be wasting precious stamping time if the weather is too cold, too hot, too wet!!!! Get the picture?

When I realised this week's challenge used Blendabilities, I was already half-way there, with this stamped and coloured image From The Herd just waiting to be placed on a card. I love this stamp to bits, but I wonder what you think.

The 5 inch by 5 inch format allows more of the image to show and I just HAD to have the Llama and the little bird in the group. Just like in the catalogue I've used the Window Frame Collection, the 3rd and 4th from the centre and with my paper piercing tools and the Festive Template, it's so easy to add interest to the frame.

Again, taking a cue from the catalogue, the background has been stamped with a phrase, 'party animals' and a party hat from the stamp set, From The Herd. Originally, that was how I finished this card, but after looking at it again, it cried out for 'Happy Birthday' on a banner, fixed with a glue dot and button. There are plenty of sentiments included in the stamp set, so inside I've stamped 'from all of us'.

You can see this stamp set and more sample cards from the designers on page 15 of the Occasions Catalogue. Do you think you would use this stamp set for a Birthday or Get Well card?
Would you let me know?

Don't forget, we love having you share your creations at CASE-ing The Catty. Show us what you do with Blendabilities and Framelit dies and check out the Design Team's work.

Cheers,
Rachel
