Happy Umpteenth Birthday!

You have no idea how nervous I get when I see a colour challenge using this many colours!
To the point that I don't usually take that challenge on, and I wasn't going to try this ColourQ challenge this week, despite LOVING what the design team have done with it.

Then I broke it down into manageable chunks, like you ought to with any problem you're trying to solve. I took out sheets of the colours from the Designer Series Paper Stacks. That seemed to help a lot, although I discarded the Night of Navy in favour of a plain sheet of card embossed with Fancy Fan Embossing Folder. I only had a sliver of Lucky Limeade to work with too, which is where the sketch at Fab Friday came in. I could make that sliver into one of the flags!

At some point I decided that I wouldn't attempt floral for the feature panel, Let's just keep it tailored and tidy with a tag from Oh My Goodies. I really like that those tags are all cut with the Deco Label Framelits, because I was able to make a plain white one, just the next size up to give it a clean border. There were two stamped, one in Strawberry Slush, the other in Bermuda Bay and then I chose which would be the main, and which would be the highlighted word. It certainly is an interesting colour palette.

I have a feeling my next birthday might just be an "umpteenth" one!!!!

  2. I loved hearing about your process for incorporating the colors into your design. You're exactly right about breaking the challenge down into manageable chunks and I'm going to remember that the next time I'm tempted to walk away from a challenge! The end result is beautiful - a card with wonderful texture and a lovely arrangement of color and patterns. Thanks so much for sharing your card with us at colourQ!

  3. Well designed card and I must say I'm with you on giving up if there are too many colors...does seem daunting at first but I like how you stuck with it. I also like how you changed out the square panel in the sketch for the labels. Thanks for sharing at Fab Friday!
