Origami Card

For Logan's birthday I used an origami fold, a simple one but effective, none-the-less. I was thrilled when Logan said how much he loved his origami card, what a smart boy! He also named the car model (I can't remember what it is) and loved the foil from the SALE-A-Brations offering. It changes colour according to the light falling on it, and according to Logan, resembles an oil slick. Apparently, that is very desirable, which made this card a winner!!!

The pattern paper is from the Geared Up Garage suite, and that alone is worth having with fabulous masculine images included.

The numeral '9' on the car door is to indicate which birthday it is, and was the only feature Logan didn't spot. He was very impressed with his Gran!!!

Gift Packaging & Stampin' Up!

No doubt you are busy getting ready for the festive season, just like I am. It seemed like a good idea to share a solution I came up with the other day when I was wrapping gifts. Like most of us, I will grab a bag at a discount shop to pop a gift into, but there are a few gifts which deserve a little more.

This gift bag was made using a piece of 12" X 12" DSP (patterned paper) which I'd picked specifically as the recipient has a Turkish connection. The gold colour is on the outside for the Christmas feel, but on the inside reminds me of Persian tiles. Unfortunately, one part of this gift measured the same length as the bag was high and there seemed no way of artfully closing it.

It was then I spied a contrasting piece of paper and decided to make another gift bag, but shorter, to use as a lid. The Foil Snowflakes in gold and silver (#144642) are available until the end of the Holiday catalogue, and I've used nearly all my gold ones, so I'm about to start on silver. The great thing is that the Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate (#141653) comes in both colours, it just depends which side of the acetate is facing up. Don't forget to peel the protective plastic off the silver side when you use this.

I was lucky enough to earn the Merry Patterns stamp set, during the short period it was available, and I have had a LOT of use from it these last few months. The giant bells were in a pack of Christmas decorations at a chain department store, the paper has retired, but what a great way to use it up, and the ribbon was from last years SALE-A-Bration. Two Beatiful Rides SAB CTC#72

This week at CASE-ing The Catty we are sharing another SALE-A-Bration pick, whether it be a stamp set, one of the papers or even Project Life - they're all available for you to pick when you make an order of $90.

I decided to use the tandem bicycle sketch to make a card using the Bug from Beautiful Ride. I've never known anyone who owned a VW, nor have I ever ridden in them, but like a lot of people, I do think they're kinda cute.

There are a few different pieces of Designer Series Paper on this card. The Map is from Going Places DSPS, while the car has been stamped onto Pretty Petals DSPS. Both of those are 6 inch square paper stacks with 48 sheets of paper, ideal for card-making. In addition, I used a strip of Shine On Specialty DSP, as  there was a scrap on my table left from another project, just begging to be added.

Sentiments on this card are from Beautiful Ride and Project Life Let's Get Away.

 Next I turned to the back of the leaflet and decided to ink up the tandem bicycle. It's a cute little stamp where you can build up the picture adding bits and pieces like a basket, flowers, hearts or the wine and bread I've popped in here today. The paper is water colour paper, and I used an Aquapainter to colour all the bits and pieces. Later, I stamped with the small splatter stamp from Timeless Textures and added a little strip of Cherry On Top DSP. I had a couple dear to my heart in mind, when I was making this card and they'll be celebrating 10 years of marriage in October this year. The sentiments on this card are from Beautiful Ride and Party Pants (it's another SAB pick). Did you notice one rounded corner on the blue card? I CASE-d that from the brochure too.                                        I'm so happy with this pair of cards, and I do hope I've inspired you to start stamping something. Happy Easter Chick CTC#71

This week at CASE-ing The Catty we are CASE-ing Easter - from any catalogue. I scanned the Occasions catalogue and found inspiration on page 24 with a card using the Easter lamb stamp and a bag with a star-shaped window cut out. The Stampin' Up!® artists who design all the projects for the catalogues do a fabulous job. It's always worthwhile CASE-ing the catalogue samples to get your own creativity happening. You can change up the colours, or stamps and Framelits, or even begin by copying it outright - that's the whole point of CASE-ing.                                                                                                                                                            I was really glad that Suite Sayings had this lovely big Easter stamp included. You'll find this set of 10 varied sentiments on page 41 of the Occasions Catalogue. Honeycomb Happiness is a SALE-A-Bration stamp set, and that is finishing up on March 31st, so not long left now for you to place your $90 order and get a free item, like Honeycomb Happiness.

The card I CASE-d is on page 24 of the Occasions Catalogue. The artists water coloured the grass and sky around the lamb, but I've used another stamp set to help me out.

Sprinkles Of Life decorated the card with fluffy clouds and small flowers. It will definitely be retiring at the end of May, because it is an annual stamp set dedicated to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House. In fact, $3 of each sale of Sprinkles Of Life goes to Ronald McDonald House in Australia, where I live. Whichever country you make your purchase in, that is where the donation to RMCH is made. Isn't that a great idea? You can find it on the inside of the back cover of the Annual catalogue. It comes in handy for building a scene like I have here around the chick.

It's time for me to get a move on and make some more of these little bags to hold some treats for Easter. It's easy to do with a Gift Bag Punch Board. The paper is 15cm by 25.5cm to make a small bag. At the top I've made a flap closure and the smallest oval has been used to cut a window. The chick from Honeycomb Happiness has been lightly watercolored and adhered partially covering the window.

This week I took inspiration from the SALE-A-Bration leaflet, second issue, which began on February 16th, It includes two stamp sets - Pedal Pusher and Party Pants - plus a pack of three Metalics Glitter Tape. I broke out the silver glitter tape for these cards, and I'm so thrilled with it! It tears just like washi tape and the glitter is brilliant! I might have got a little bit carried away using it, but is it possible to have too much glimmer and gleam?

My first card was based on the little 'Congrats' card at the bottom right of the catty picture. Very loosely based I could add, but it's so easy to vere off in another direction. I had been playing with the volkswagon from Beautiful Ride. First I stamped it on the white card, and then a second image onto a piece of Perfectly Artistic DSP (one of the earlier SAB items which made way for these new ones). It was easy enough to trim the body of the car and remove the windows. In real life there is a nice impression of the tyres being recessed, quite realisticly. The wee dog in the back seat is a tiny stamp you can add anywhere you please. I taped this onto the Shine On Specialty Designer Series Paper with silver clouds, and added a few candy dots.

For the second card, I was inspired by the gift bag in the middle of the picture. I couldn't stop at one balloon though, and used the Balloon Bouquet Punch to add a couple more. The sentiment stamped on the Pool Party balloon is a very useful one to hang on to and use for a long while after Sale-A-Bration ends. There are eight really handy greetings and the lovely big balloon in Party Pants.

Congrats Mr 18 FMS225

This sketch from Jen Mitchell on the design team at Freshly Made Sketches was just the inspiration I needed to pull together a card for a young man turning 18. This clean sketch is perfect to make the DSP a focal point, and still allow the oh-so-important numbers to hold their own as well.

Go Wild Designer Paper Stack has some great masculine papers, in addition to the animal prints you might expect. I'm not a fan of animal prints but the other graphic designs more than compensate, especially when you can use a good-sized piece like this.

I've shared before that I like to cut several numerals and stack them up using Tombow to adhere them. It raises the numbers up enough to give a little more texture.

Because this is for a young man, I've kept the sentiment short and snappy. This one arrived in my Stampin' Up!® delivery this morning, included in the newest SALE-A-Bration stamp set, Party Pants. For the colours, it was easiest to take my cue from the DSP, so it's Sahara Sand and Basic Black.

What I Love CQC#326

These colours at the ColourQ Challenge this week speak to me of florals, and so I stamped out a relatively quick card using a new stamp I had on hand. So easy, as there is the bold, line image and then two others which help out a lot with colouring that image. Although I have done two-step stamping, I've then returned and casually added strokes of additional colour with a Stampin' Write Marker.

What I Love is one of my favourite stamps from the SALE-A-Bration catalogue this year. When it arrives in your order, it might be a touch surprising. There doesn't seem to be much to it, especially as it is photopolymer. I'm definitely not sorry to have it in my stash, I've been using it lots.

Butterfly Basics provided a birthday sentiment in a lovely font for this card.The 'spidery' font that birthday is written with really appeals to me, and I've noticed that the sentiments for Rose Wonder are similar. I wonder if that means I'll need to order that stamp too?
