Snow Camping - a customised Birthday card.

Can you believe that anyone is crazy enough to go camping, in a tent, in the snow? Well, my youngest has done this now for the last two years, so after I saw the first years's photos, I knew I had to pull an old die set out of my 'favourites' drawer. He insists they are toasty warm in their Zero 10 degrees sleeping bags, but I really don't know!

Greatest Journey, with the tent, snow and silhouetted figure was one of those bundles that a mum & gran of boys couldn't part with when it retired. It also has a bike rider which I used for a grandson when it was current. You can check that card out here.

The sentiment is another more recently retired die called Wanted To Say. I wonder if you have stamps or dies that you just can't part with.

 Upcycled card backing from DSP packs is a wonderful medium for ink blending, having a bit of shine to it. The moon was created by punching a circle from a post-it-note sticky part and masking off the area.

I always add adhesive sheet to fiddly pieces like these before I die cut and it makes for a much cleaner crafting experience. You can find it in the die cutting section of the online store but click on adhesive sheet and it will take you there. It is a little pricey but a little goes a long way, and since I've been very frugal about the rest of the supplies its a well-deserved luxury.

CASE-ing The Catty Crew are a group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators from Australia & New Zealand who take inspiration weekly from the catalogues. The catalogues are a fantastic resource, and we love to inspire you to seek inspiration there too.

The beginning of the year is a busy birthday time in our family with 6 celebrating by mid-March, so as well as designing classes I am madly creating personalised birthday cards.

The panels on this SAB sample caught my eye, as well as the stamping with a mix of smaller images. The sentiment on the centre panel seemed like a good idea too, so I CASEd that.

A piece of gingham vellum has been placed in the background and teamed with Coastal Cabana after Pool Party appeared a little washed-out. I have coloured all the background with a Pool Party Stampin' Blend after the stamped images had been coloured also in appropriate colours.

Wanted To Say have a couple of sentiment dies which would have suited here, but nothing beats a 'Happy Birthday'.

Colour Creations Blog Hop- Week 45 - Shaded Spruce Spinner Card

Contributors to this blog hop are all members of Claire Daly's Art With Heart group. We love chatting, crafting and getting together in person. This is week 45 of our blog hop and the featured colour is Shaded Spruce. I chose to team this with Coastal Cabana to create a special birthday card for a grandson.

There is a reason that you are seeing two spinner cards here - the one on the left was the first I'd ever made, and I may not have had the twine tight enough, or I just may have played with it a bit too much. 

 

Hot Air Balloon bundle is perfect for a spinner card and the small balloon fits the aperture rather nicely. After card one ended up with a floppy balloon, I was too embarrassed to send that off to the Sunshine Coast, so I made another one.

On the second card I have circled the cut out with Shaded Spruce as well, it emphasises the opening more. A combination of Deckled Circles and Stitched Shapes circle dies were used to cut the openings and surrounding frames.

Wanted To Say dies have some lovely word sentiments and a few embellishment pieces, such as the stars included here. I like to add adhesive sheets to the back of these finer pieces of die cutting, so they are easier to stick to the accompanying piece.

Everyday Thanks Fun #35for35

Last Friday I travelled into Melbourne for a couple of nights away from home routines. The main reason was a Stampin' Up! gathering to celebrate the companies 35th anniversary, jointly hosted by my team leader Claire Daly and another leader, Michelle Grech.

I had tickets to go to Lightscape in the Royal Botanic Gardens on Friday night and I was very thankful that the weather was kind - no rain, and relatively pleasant for a winter evening. The music set the mood for the lighting display, and it was an enjoyable stroll through the gardens.

My friend had forgotten her Myki (public transport ticket) so we did a lot of walking, in fact my tally for the day was 18,600+ steps.

Melbourne is a beautiful city anyway, but Lightscape adds another dimension.

Early start the next morning but I'd been waking up through the night anyway, (excited?) so I was ready to head out soon after 8am.

When I signed up to go to this team event, we did not know that our event would be selected to have someone from the company join us for the celebration, but a couple of months ago we heard someone was coming from Utah, and then a little later that it was Sara Douglass, CEO of the company.

 Sara is delightful, and happily approached people to chat. It seemed unbelievable that she would fly all that way, arriving Friday, spend the day with us on Saturday, then turn around and fly back to the States on Sunday.

Claire had asked us to make name tags with a fun, playful theme so I chose Everyday Thanks to make my pencil tag.

While I masked and stamped pencils, an idea for a card was forming. Sketched Plaid provided an interesting background, while the Wanted To Say dies have some good combinations of words.

The card with bandaids is designed along the same lines as the first, using an embossing folder for the background and a suitable phrase from Wanted To Say.

There were a number of display boards where we shared our work, and my bandaid card was the one I submitted.

Sara always does a Facebook Live on our Demonstrator Facebook page and this was a photo afterwards while we were all still grouped in the corner. Fifty-six very excited stampers in a room can be very loud!

Sara joined the group from our table for a photo during the afternoon. We had demonstrators fly in to join us from Tasmania, Adelaide - SA, Sydney - NSW and Toowoomba - QLD that I know of.

These get-togethers are one of the things I love most about being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator. It's like being a part of a big, crafty family! Our next one is March 2024, a 3-day event in Melbourne at the Convention centre.
