CTC#296 Step Up A Simple Project

Every week at CASE-ing The Catty we set an assignment, which members of the design team interpret, before throwing the challenge over to you, to do the same. This week we are looking for a project in the mini catalogue that we can step up. If you check out the picture below, it explains it in a pictorial way.

The first card is a single tree on a plain red base, with a simple hand cut sentiment. Card two has a banner with two layers for the sentiment, & foil to show off the 2 trees. The third card has 3 trees, a fancier layer behind and ribbon behind the sentiment. Each of those cards is worthy of being given, but they are progressively more involved.

Page 18 is where I found inspiration, a card almost identical to this one (above). This is a card for the casual crafter as it involves die cuts and some fussy cutting. There isn't any embellishment to this project, its all glued to the base with no dimensionals. That's not to say that some rhinestones couldn't be added, either clear or the Holiday selection.

It would be a card that you could fairly easily make multiples of also. You would stamp the two large words on card that is going to fit through the die cut machine, positioned so that you can stamp once, die cut both words at once. With 'AND' or any other of the smaller words, you stamp as many as you need, and fussy cut with snips - easy! The holly leaves and berries were only a touch more intricate, but worth it I think.

However, when it came time to step-it-up I decided to up-size my holly leaves too! Brightly Gleaming has the prettiest holly leaves and berries, all in one. They have been stamped in Stazon, because I watercoloured them. They have been stamped on thick whisper white, so quite easy to fussy cut.

Layers are another common way to step-up a project and so 2 more layers were added, with some texture embossing on the white card. Gilded gems and diecut words also added a little more.

Do you have a preference when you are crafting? Do you like to keep it simple or step-it-up? Also, do you use the catalogue to inspire your creativity? If you do, take a look through the mini catalogue and see if there is a card or 3D project you'd like to step-up. Then share it on our Facebook page.

CASE a Project CTC#291

CASE-ing The Catty is a group of Australian and New Zealand Stampin' Up! demonstrators who love to share the design potential of the catalogues. With the great projects featured all through these inspiration books, it's easy to CASE and come up with a new original design. This week we are CASE-ing pages 71-75, which covers bundles.

Straight away, I spied this design on page 71 using Peace & Joy. Such a beautiful bundle, and I was tempted to make this using red, but it occurred to me that Nothing Better Than was a good choice too. Those cookies are a great substitute for stars.

'Cookies' is a single die cut, but by using the outline of the die, I was able to trace the second layer onto Early Espresso. The vellum layer has been eye-balled and cut freehand.

Misty Moonlight is the base, with champagne metallic foil over. The DSP from In Good Taste DSP looks a lot like the tiles on a kitchen splashback, but there are so many papers in that pack that would suit, and its a DSP that is 15% off for October. You'll find it listed at the end of this post in the supplies.

It's nice to finish off the inside, especially when there is a sentiment which fits with the 2 on the front of the card. Some stamped cookies and we're done. Is it a cookie kind of day for you?

Have a look through those pages, 71-75, and see which you might CASE. Then pop it in our Facebook challenge here, because we love to see your creations too.

Following me this week is the talented Rose Packer with some Christmas delight for us.
