More playing with colour!

Hi there!

Thanks for dropping by.

You might remember last time I was telling you how I started to make one card, and actually ended up with three?
This post I am showing you how to Step It Up, a common term for when you take a basic card and dress it up a bit more, or a lot! *wink*.

So the card to the left was the one I submitted for Freshly Made Sketches #89, some weeks ago now. You will notice that the dimensions of the basic card are smaller too, but the idea was the same.

When I Stepped It Up, I stamped the large blossom from Betsy's  Blossoms onto the large greeting panel, inking once and stamping twice to get two tones of the same shade of Primrose Petals. The greeting from Vintage Verses (retired Sale-a-bration) was stamped in Basic Grey on both, and banners were cut from More Amore DSP (retired) using the Hearts a Flutter Framelits.

The other main difference is the stepped up card has some embellishments added; pearls, Itty Bitty blossom punch flowers, a tiny punched butterfly in Pool Party to pick up that colour in one of the banners and an In-color Dahlia. The edges of the banners were all softened with ink too.

Which version do you prefer?

Birthday Banners

It seems to have taken me ages to make this little birthday card today. It shouldn't have taken so long but I was really having a big play with colour, so there are a lot of partly made samples on my work table!!!

I wanted to use the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches, and I probably should have used a different focal stamp, because the orientation is all wrong and it doesn't allow the banners to shine.
I've used a sale-a-bration stamp Vintage Verses, and some flowers from Betsy's Blossoms. The banners were cut  mainly using the Hearts A Flutter framelits and mostly DSP from More Amore.

The colours that ended up on this card were Basic Grey and Primrose Petals, a far cry from the Summer Starfruit and Gumball Green I began with!!!
I usually go for a swim on Thursday morning at my local, indoor heated pool, but I have a cold and decided to give it a miss today. I was also waiting on my box of goodies from Stampin' Up!, but it hasn't come. Boo hoo! It shipped on Saturday, and I thought it should have been here by Thursday, and if it doesn't arrive tomorrow, it won't be here till Tuesday. Its good that we are having a long weekend, but sad that my new toys haven't come yet!
At least I will have a big rest this weekend
Hope you have time to do something you enjoy too,
Rachel

Secret Garden Swap South Pacific Convention 2013

Would you like to see my swap for Convention?

I left it a bit late, and feel quite ashamed of how few I had to swap, but I will try to get more organised next year, because the girls had some gorgeous swaps there!

I'd heard that the Glossy card was to be retired, we usually would use Glossy card for crayon resist technique. I thought I would try it out on Shimmery White card using Wild Wisteria, Pool Party and Secret Garden flowers stamped in Basic Grey.

It turned out very soft and subtle, which was quite pleasing, but the crayon didn't come out as strongly as usual, so I'm not sure if that was my application of crayon or the soft pastel colours,

I must try it again with a bold colour combo!

Have a great day, thanks for stopping by

(Freshly Made) Sketch #36

I wasn't going to make any challenge cards this week, but after I had organised everything today, I wondered what I would do with the rest of my Sunday!!!
Taking a look at the sketch for this week at Freshly Made Sketches, I decided to make this card using the Aviary Stamp Set, a set I received when I joined Stampin' Up. My main worry was deciding which colours to use and after trying out a few combinations I settled on More Mustard and Basic Grey, with a little Always Avocado ink thrown in for good neasure.

Using the Decorative label punch to cut the three shapes for the left side of the sketch, I also added a Glimmer Brad to each. A layer of Domestic Goddess paper in grey was placed under the Whisper White with the stamped images, including the Happy Day to you greeting from stamp set Friendly Phrases. The branch is the Thoughts and Prayers Stamp set. So just a simple little card, using a clean and simple plan. Forgot to add, it hasn't caught them very well in my night time photo but there is a row of 3 rhinestones on the bottom of the cage and a slightly bigger rhinestone up the top.
Thanks for taking a look at my blog, happy stamping everyone!

Don't forget to check out the other cards for this sketch here at Freshly Made, maybe you would like to play along too?
