My son has a great group of friends who he has known since high school. They are all pretty funny characters too, loads of personality. Next weekend I'm caring for three of my grandchildren while their parents go off to celebrate Rowan the fireman's 40th birthday. I made a beautiful card for him using the Number Of Years and Sunburst Thinlet Die and Matthew said, "It's beautiful Mum, but don't you have a fire engine?"
Well, of course I do! It is the retired stamp set You're My Hero, so I whipped up another card, took a photo and asked if this was what he had in mind. "Perfect," was the response so this is what it is. I decided to make a double flip card and used the gorgeous Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper from Sale-A-Bration, but now retired. I'm sure this soft, swirly grey resembles smoke. It seems to be a perfect fit for the colour challenge at Color Throwdown too.
I've coloured the fire engine using ink and an aquapainter. Once it was dry, I added Wink of Stella clear to the hub caps and the windows, just wish you could see it glimmer. There's a 'happy birthday' sentiment stamped on the reverse of the numbers and room to write a greeting behind the fire engine.
Funny story, another of their friends, Simon is a plumber and the order was in for his 40th card using Guy Greetings tools and 'righty-tighty, lefty-loosey' because Simon is a plumber. However, earlier this week his wife Sarah went into labour and he delivered their daughter on the side of the road as they made their way to hospital. I guess that isn't that funny, but it's the second time he's done it!!! The second child was born at home on the floor of the bathroom, delivered by dad. As the first child said when interviewed by the television news crew, "I'm the only sensible one who was born in a hospital." I was out in the city with Matthew today, and asked him whether making an ambulance 40th might be more appropriate now.
Thanks for visiting today.
Cheers, Rachel
