Today on my video I shared these cards for kids. It was to illustrate how the patterned paper can really do all the hard work, especially if you can add a cute critter to the mix. It wasn't so much about measurements, as they are mainly decided by the pattern on the paper. Whale of a Time was the DSP used for the whale cards, and Playing With Patterns DSP for Zany Zebras. This whale card is the one I made in the video, and at the end I felt it was a bit too floppy. I blame two things for this
1) the bottom part of the card front was too heavy for the whale to support
2) the gap between the top and bottom was too big.
The quick-fix was to add a panel behind, similar to the Zany Zebra card, which was made first. I took an off-cut of the paper used on the front to place behind the whale, supported by a stitched rectangle in Pacific Point.
It seems to have done the trick. I then went on to make another whale card, with a smaller bottom and a cut-out only 1.5cm which allowed the whale to be adhered in a couple of places.
Remove another piece from card front, 1.5cm on the dark blue whale card, 3cm on the light blue whale card.
With the zebra which was designed to sit on a panel, the gap can be wider. Measure how much is left at the top of the card, and your DSP will be cut .5cm shorter.

The off-cut from the front became the fill-in panel for the inside and along with additional stamping produced a good card I think.
