Colour Creations Showcase - Purple Posy

This week team members are creating for Colour Creations Showcase with Purple Posy. Poor old Purple Posy had some issues with the ink colour not holding true, so that part of the range was deleted, but happily we have enjoyed card, Stampin' Write Markers, stampin' Blends and Designer Series paper featuring this sweet, soft shade of mauve for almost 2 years. It is an In Color, and will retire on May 3rd, so if you love it - it's time to check whether you have enough in your stash!

A few weeks ago I made a card for my grandson turning 13, and I decided to use the negative from the number to create a feminine version using mainly Purple Posy and Misty Moonlight. I took the colour cues from the piece of Playing With Patterns DSP, so Coastal Cabana made a cameo appearance too. These are colours I probably wouldn't have thought to put together normally, but they look good.

For another feminine touch, a few Pretty Perennials die cuts, along with the larger flower from Sweet Strawberry, dressed it up.
Now that I know you can punch it with the Small Bloom Punch, it makes it so much quicker to use! (It tells you in small print under the stamp information, what it co-ordinates with).

You Are Amazing is on page 7 of the January to June Mini Catalogue, which means you'll be able to purchase this up until June 30, if stocks last. It can be paired with a kit, which is a great way to venture into card-making if you aren't feeling confident about cutting correctly, or don't own a paper trimmer yet. You'll need to have your own acrylic blocks to mount the stamps on, and an ink pad. If you want to keep your purchases to a limit, I suggest a D Block, and a Pretty Peacock ink pad to complete the kit. Other colours Stampin' Up! sugest are Flirty Flamingo, Granny Apple Green, and Melon Mango.

Pop back over to Cathy Proctor to check out some more Purple Posy Creations.

Teen Boy's Birthday

My biggest challenge is creating a birthday card to suit the personality of my grandchildren and every year gets trickier. I have 6 grandsons aged 3-13, and only one grand daughter, who will turn 8 in March and I find the older they get, the harder it is to come up with suitable cards for the boys.

Mr 13 lives on the coast, where the favourite leisure activities are outdoors, of course. Surfing, skateboarding, basketball & scooters, and indoors he is obsessed with checking his phone and i-pad for messages. He sounds pretty normal - right?

Lying in bed one night recently, it came to me that I could attempt a 'graffiti wall' card, so I was quite excited to give it a try, using an easel card. I do always try to come up with a different fold as well, particularly for this family with 3 kids who keep their cards in a treasure box and when they were younger took them to school for "show & tell". That's the way to a Gran's heart!!!

The card front was made twice, so I was glad I'd used the Stamparatus to position the stamps. I texture embossed the card front first time around before heat embossing and it was patchy. It may have been alright, but I wasn't happy.

This is what you end up with when you stamp with Versamark, heat emboss with white embossing powder, then texture emboss with the Brick & Mortar embossing folder before using a blending brush and Cinammon Cider ink to give some depth to the wall.

With an easel card, a stopper of some sort is needed.I found that a couple of layers cut with Tasteful Labels dies, topped with numbers is very adequate at holding it in place.

A big selection of stamp sets, including a retired one, were used in the making of this card!
