Hey Birthday Balloons

Have you added 'Hey Birthday Chick" to your craft shelf? I guess its one of those sets you either love or hate, but the chicks are pretty cute, and I do have a grandson who writes adventure stories about Master Chicken! LOL! I think this just might be his next birthday card.

It originally came out in the January to June Mini catalogue, and a little later we were surprised by dies being introduced, along with Hey Chick, which was a 2017 SALE-A-Bration stamp set, and that has a set of dies too. I'll add them at the end so you can take a look at them in my shop, and decide if they're for you. They will only be available until the end of the mini - June 30th.

No dies were used on this card though, just a little fussy-cutting of balloons. The chicken was masked to keep her white while the background was blended, and I decided to grunge the card a little by placing the textured card on an angle, roughing one edge and curling a corner.

This design has been inspired from a tutorial from Susan Wong in New Zealand on the @craftycarrotco group with a few small alterations. I've purchased a subscription to increase my use of the stamp sets I have invested in.

It's always nice to decorate the inside of the card too.

Friendly Birds

Trying to share all the fun cards I've made with the SALE-A-Bration stamps before SAB ends for 2017. March 31st is your last day to place an order and score a free item (there are more than stamp sets available). Hey Chick was top of my list when I saw them previewed, and these two in particular take my fancy. Trying different ways to use them, on the pink card I coloured them using the splashes of colour stamps from Beautiful You.

I was happy with the aqua chicken on the right with just two stampings, but the girl on the left - well...she needed more. She's such a bright sticky-beak, she needed intense colour. I used nice bright shades for the mats as well, and liked the askew arrangement here. When in doubt:stamp is from another SAB stamp set, Designer Tee.

This time our chook is much more demure. She has been water coloured in soft sky and a marker used for the comb and the hatching chicks legs. The background is from retired stamp set Ghoulish Grunge and Happy Birthday is another from the SAB set Designer Tee.

My online shop is always open for business and you can choose your SALE-A-Bration freebie once your order reaches $90 before shipping. The Hostess Code until 22nd March is 2RFDUTSY

Birds of a Feather TGIFC95

I was a little bit excited to see this challenge at TGIF Challenges, the minute I saw Hey Chick at Onstage in Brisbane last November, I put it to the top of my wish list. I've actually had a lot of use from it too. It's funny, because everyone seems to love these flamboyant ladies! It was fun to bling this card up with a strand of sequins over the washi tape, and every bird is a different colour, thanks to the Stampin' Up!® Watercolour Pencils. My fingers are crossed that more colours are coming in the Annual Catalogue, because all my ladies are feeling so much more confident about colouring since these were introduced. They're even happier to try the ink now they're getting the hang of it!!!

I've taken another picture from a different angle to try to show up the colours, which are mainly from the brights range with a few neutrals added in. I'm in the process of making one of the cute egg cartons match this card, its been sprayed with alcohol rub and Melon Mambo ink from a re-inker so far.

Last night I had a card class, and during SALE-A-Bration, I always feature one card using a SAB stamp. February's pick was Hey Chick and the ladies were thrilled to bits with their cards. We used a very simple masking technique and coloured  with the Watercolor pencils, with every creation being a little different from the next. Suite Sentiments has been a source for the perfect greeting for this cluster of girls, don't you think? You'll find it at the back of the Occasions Catalogue.

Don't forget to pop over to TGIFC to see all the other birds, and maybe add your own creation.

Happy crafting
Cheers, Rachel
